2/17 Give yourself some "me-time"

Posted on February 17, 2010 at 1:36 PM

With the weather we’ve been having none of us want to go outside, so why not give yourself some “me-time” this weekend.

As you know, I’m a DIY kind of girl. When I worked in a spa, I took the opportunity for free and convenient services for granted. I was so used to scheduling a facial on my day off, swaping pedis with the other nail tech’s, squeezing a brow wax in here or there, and getting a haircut or shampoo/style in between clients that I forgot what it was like to have to maintain my own beauty rituals.

Now that I have my own solo spa business, I don’t have people around to take care of me for free anymore, and I’ve been reminded of the burden of daily beauty maintenance. I am NOT willing to pay spa prices for my regular maintenance, which means I have to do it myself. Instead of thinking of it as work, I try to make it enjoyable…

I take a Saturday or Sunday morning/afternoon (depending on my party schedules) once every month or two to devote to beautifying myself. It’s a great treat and I always feel amazing afterwards. I strongly suggest that you try it!

Give yourself a deep conditioning mayonnaise hair treatment, and a “kitchen-cabinet” facial. Then, take a long warm bath, exfoliate and shave. Follow this by applying some natural glow or another self-tanning lotion to give you a little color. Now, give yourself a pedi, wax or tweeze your brows, and give yourself a mani. Finish it all off with a lifetime movie or two in your bathrobe.

I promise you’ll look and feel just as great after this day at the home-spa as you would after a day at the regular spa and you’ll spare yourself the buyer’s remorse.

Once you’re all fresh and beautiful, call your friends and celebrate with a girls night out!

FYI: I took my own advise and had a little spa day this weekend. When I added up what my "me-time" would have cost in the spa I used to work at, I was surprised to find out I saved myself $250+, and I loved every minute of it! Here's what I did: First I filled my acrylic nails (would have been $30), then I gave my self a mayonnaise hair mask (deep conditioning treatments at my salon started at $25 and with the length and thickness of my hair it would have been closer to $35), Then I gave myself a brow, lip, and chin wax while the mask set ($16 each at the spa, so $48 all together), then I showered and exfoliated (body silk exfoliating treatment at vivace is $70 and basically is just a salt and oil scrub, shower, and moisturizer), after my shower I gave myself a pedicure ($42 at the salon), I then dried and straightened my hair (shampoo/styles start at $30) Finally, I gave myself a french manicure ($5 for the french polish). I look and feel just a good as I would have after the salon, but my bank account hasn't been drained.

I hope you take my advise and try this for yourself!
